Miasta śląskie.

W połowie zeszłego stulecia, gdy szkoły na Górnym Śląsku po wielkiej części były polskie, ułożył sobie ktoś z mapą pod ręką wiersz o miastach śląskich. Dzisiaj już tru­dno kogo znaleść, coby geografię wierszo­waną, kiedyś wszędzie rozpowszechnioną, jeszcze umiał na pamięć; urywki tylko tu i owdzie słychać. Szczęśliwym przypadkiem dowiedzieliśmy się tyle, co następuje:

STO pięćdziesiąt siedem miastów
W naszym śląskim kraju są;
Nie ze siebie, lecz z landkarty
Jam je tak złożone mom:
Pszczyna, Żory, Mikołów,
Racibórz i Wodzisłow,
Mysłowice przy wodzie,
Stary Bieruń też tamże.

Rybnik, potem Katowice,
Tam robotne strony są;
O Królewskiej Hucie wiecie,
Piękne miasto jest Bytom.
Kto chce mieć zielazny piec,
To se poń do Gliwic jedź,
Choć miasteczko małe jest,
Ale kupisz, czego chcesz.

Chwalić trza Tarnowskie Góry,
I Miasteczko, Woźniki;
Tam się jedzie szukać żony,
Nie daleko to z drogi.
A Lubliniec, Olesno,
Także dziochy piękne mo;
W Dobrodzieniu, Gorzowie,
Tam mnie chciały aże dwie.

Łodpust w Chełmie to był udany. Jak sie wlazło na diobelski młyn, to było nawet widać jak na Błyndowie Moncia Pilorzowo chopa biglym prała, bo prziszeł ze sumy na fleku. Kiedyś karasole stowały na Krympcu, wele szpricynchauzu, ale placu było mało.

Czy cytowany [?] Dominik Otkowicz to postać realna. A może żart i kreacja Stefana Szymutki?

Oczywiście, literacka ważność i znaczenie Soplicowa, Combray i Dublina są nagrodą za geniusz twórców, którzy potrafili przekształcić partykularne i jednostkowe w ogólnoludzkie. Niemniej, wejście w owo ogólnoludzkie, które u spodu nie przestaje przecież być partykularne, wiąże się z rezygnacją, zapomnieniem albo przynajmniej zgodą na mniejszą ważność swojskiej partykularności. Nie łatwo taką zgodę wyra­zić. Chociaż śląskie utrudniało zrozumienie nieśląskiego, to ono właśnie kierowało uwagę ku innemu, skłaniało do poszukiwania w innej, ale, mimo wszystko, tej samej kulturze potrzebnej myśli, potrzebnego słowa. Jak więc zrezygnować, unieważnić punkt wyjścia? Obcość łagodziła przecież tożsamość problemów, rozterki, bólu. Zacytujmy fragment autobiograficznej powieści śląskiego twórcy, Dominika Otkowicza: „Zacząć łosprowiać... Kaj i jak? Łod plynckyrzy na szłapach? Łostało się zdjyęcie. Karlus z kwiotkiem w życi (blank gryfny, łoszpeta ma rufo) kipnął się na klin ciotki Anki, by lepi widzieć tyn bilderbuch, co mu pokazywała. A richtig kipnął sie, bo go fest bolały te blazy, co je skórzane zole żarły. Abo śmierć ciotki Rołzy, taki baby, co dawała bombony, a jak szkyrtła myślołby kto drewniano szpetno kukła, co by ni pamiętoł jak charlała... Nie w tłumaczeniu, nawet tylko filologicznym, które rzecz jasna, nie potrafi oddać całej artystycznej złożoności orygi­nału:

Zacząć historię. Od czego? Od bąbli na nogach? Zachowało się zdjęcie. Uduchowiony malec (nawet wcale ładny, brzydota jest cier­pliwa) pochyla się nad kolanami cioci Ani, pokazującej mu album z fotografiami - w rzeczywistości pochylenie było ucieczką od zbyt bolesnego nacisku skórzanych podeszew na wypełniony chorą wodą naskórek. Albo śmierć cioci Róży: doświadczenie przemiany dającej [12] cukierki w obojętną, szpetną kukłę, która gdyby nie pamięć o jej przedśmiertnym rzężeniu... To w noc po pogrzebie Róży modliłem się najżarliwiej, trzymając w rękach jej latarkę, obiecywałem Bogu, że ją zwrócę, jeśli uwolni mnie od myślenia o zmarłych. Nie wysłuchał. Jak bardzo chciałbym pamiętać, kim była dla mnie ciocia Róża". Dominik Otkowicz w śląskiej gwarze pisze na wielkie tematy. Przede wszystkim zwróćmy uwagę na porażenie biologicznością, niemożność poradzenia sobie ze zwierzęcym w istocie jestestwem człowieka, które kultura pomaga jedynie ukryć, ale którego nie można unieważnić. Zwierzęcość nie oznacza w prozie Otkowicza życia, jest pozorem ruchu i ist­nienia, momentalnością, która nieuchronnie wyrodnieje w przedmiot (zmarła, mimo iż droga i kochana, przypomina kukłę). I ów ostateczny sprzeciw, naiwny i bezsilny. Niemoc sprzeciwu nie wynika z oporu rze­czywistości zewnętrznej (obiektywnej, realnej, zdeterminowanej), lecz bezsilności podmiotu, który chciałby ocalić historyczność kochanej osoby, ale owej historyczności nie ma już nawet w jego pamięci.
